The Department of Educational Psychology under the Faculty of Education (http://www.fed.cuhk.edu.hk/eps/) now invites applications for the position of Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in Counselling.

 

Applicants should possess (i) a Master's degree or above in counselling, counselling psychology, clinical psychology, social work, or related disciplines; (ii) relevant post-Master experience (at least four years for Lecturer rank and ten years for Senior Lecturer rank); and (iii) strong commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship. Priority will be given to those who have appropriate teaching and professional experience in higher education, qualification and experience in counselling and supervising students in counselling practicum, and good command in spoken Cantonese. The appointee will develop and teach courses at postgraduate and undergraduate levels and assist in curriculum development.

 

Appointment will normally be made on a contract basis for up to two years initially commencing August 2022 or earlier, which is renewable subject to mutual agreement. Salary will be highly competitive, and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Position

Practising Clinical Psychologist I/II

Job Descriptions

The appointee will work with an experienced clinical psychologist who is one of the Accredited Clinical Supervisors of Hong Kong Institute of Clinical Psychologists (HKICP) in a setting that fosters professional growth. 

 

Main duties include:

(a)     providing quality cognitive-behavioural therapies and other evidence-based psychological treatments, usually on a weekly basis, to clients with anxiety, mood disorders, eating disorders and other mental disorders; and

(b)       providing psychopathological assessments and recommend treatment methods to people with suspected mental health problems.

Administrative duty is minimal. Local and overseas training opportunities are available. 5 days work and working on Saturdays may be required.

 

Applicants should have:

(i)          a Master’s degree or above in Clinical Psychology;

(ii)       at least 4 years’ full-time clinical experience specialising in treating Chinese-speaking clients with anxiety, depression, and other common mental disorders; and

(iii)     outstanding clinical skills in engaging clients and building with them a therapeutic relationship. 

 

Applicants who do not fulfill the requirement in (ii) above may be considered for appointment as Practising Clinical Psychologist II. Applicants who are 2021 graduates of Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology may also apply. Initial regular supervision will be provided by the Accredited Clinical Supervisor of HKICP to the appointee with less clinical experience.

Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for 2 years with contract-end gratuity, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered.

Responsibilities:

 

  •  Assessing a patient's needs or behaviour using a variety of methods, including psychometric tests, interviews and direct observation of behaviour
  • Observing individuals interactions, or in other contexts to detect indications of mental deficiency, and/or abnormal behaviour or moods.
  • Diagnosing and developing and implementing individual evidenced based treatment plans, specifying type, frequency, intensity, and duration of therapy
  • Working as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside doctors, nurses, education professionals, and psychiatrists
  • Monitoring appropriate treatment programmes, including therapy, counselling or advice, in collaboration with colleagues and evaluating the effectiveness of counselling or treatments, and the accuracy and completeness of diagnoses, then modify plans and diagnoses as necessary
  • Offering therapy and treatments for difficulties relating to mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, addiction, social and interpersonal problems and challenging behaviour

  • Keep accurate records of treatments and liaise with other healthcare personnel to supply and receive relevant information about the background and progress of patients
  • Providing psychological and/or administrative services and advice to private firms, schools and community agencies regarding special needs and mental health programs or individual cases
  • Refer patients to medical practitioners or specialists if medically indicated

 

Requirements:

 

  • Knowledge and actual experience on Psychology Services
  • Relevant qualification obtained
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English and Chinese
  • Good problem solving skills and proactive working attitude
  • Patient focus with strong interpersonal skill and willing to learn
  • Able to work in Central Clinic and may be required to work in other clinics
