The Registration Board of the Hong Kong Psychological Society was set up in May 1994. The Professional Register contains the names and specialties of qualified psychologists recognized by the Hong Kong Psychological Society.
Registered psychologists are Members of the Hong Kong Psychological Society and are bound by the Society's Code of Professional conduct.
A Registered Psychologist must
1. Be a Member other than an Honorary
Fellow of the Society in good standing,
AND
2. Normally possess a higher degree in psychology obtained from an institution
recognized by the Society,
AND
3. Have at least one year of post qualification experience in a discipline of
psychology deemed acceptable by the Council.
Use of Abbreviations
Registered Psychologists are entitled to use the abbreviations "Reg. Psychol." after their names. The Registration Board at this moment only recognizes the specialization of the three Divisions of the Hong Kong Psychological Society, namely the Division of Clinical Psychology, the Division of Educational Psychology and the Division of Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Registered Psychologists who are also members of the three Divisions are entitled to use an adjectival clause depicting their specialty in brackets after the abbreviations: Reg.Psychol (Clin. Psych), Reg. Psychol.(Ed. Psych.), Reg.Psychol. (I/O Psych.)
Complaints
Any complaint against a Registered Psychologist will be pursued according to the Procedures for Handling Complaints set out in the Appendix to the By-Laws. Breach of the Society's Code of Professional Conduct, upon the order of the Council, can lead to removal from the Register the name of the psychologist concerned.
Society-based Professional Registration
The public is reminded that at this moment there is no legal requirement for a person to register in order to practice as a psychologist in Hong Kong. Until a statutory list of qualified psychologists appears, the Registration Board of the Hong Kong Psychological Society will assume the responsibility for registration of qualified psychologists and will regularly update the Society-based Register.
